Notes on Julia Munroe |
|
Julia was born on the 6th of March 1847 and died in 1923. In those days, young ladies from wealthy backgrounds, would tour Europe to see the sites and hopefully find an eligible husband, this is presumably what Julia did as she was married to Gabriel de V B a Russian nobleman in 1870 at the Russian embassy and the Russian orthodox church in Geneva Switzerland. Her father was James Monroe 1815 to 1869 and he was married to Caroline Augusta Clarke 1824 to 1917 James Monroe was an American senator, and also a lawyer I believe. He and his family built a toll road across the marshes from Syracuse to Elbridge in the north of New York State. This was apparently quite lucrative and gave the families substantial income. The father of James was Nathan Monroe 1791 to 1839 he was married to Cynthia Benham.
Nathan‘s father was Squire Monro (also known as Manro).
For anyone interested in the Monroe family, a trip to Elbridge New York State is fascinating. However, you will need to have a couple of days to dedicate to nothing but the Monroe family as there is huge evidence of their life there. The cemetery is full of their graves And they endowed schools And contributed greatly to local society in this small town.
