Apendix:: Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia She lived from 1729 -1796.She was born a German Princess in Stettin,on the Baltic Sea Coast.She was well educated by tutors Her nature was well known to be ruthless. She trained herself in statecraft. Married the son on the Czar who became Peter1II of Russia and ruled or six months. ????? She always worked hard and drove herself.
Catherine became Empress of Russia in 1762 and ruled till 1796 with the aid of experts from abroad mainly from Western Europe developed the arts partly stately good rule
She built up the Russian Extended the boundaries of the Empire eastwards and south eastwards. As Empress she substantially ????? Amongst the greatest achievements of the Empress Catherine in extending the Russian Empire was to organise the annexation of the Crimea in 1783 from the Turks and with it the security and full access to the Black Sea. This brought economic advantages. It also provided scope for a naval base.
